Jan Lisiecki in Chopin and Bach (Verbier Festival & Wigmore Hall)

For those who were impressed with him at the Prom, a chance to hear his recent solo recital:

Discover the world's largest collection of classical music and jazz, and experience blockbuster events in real time with our livestreams.

(I'm not a subscriber to medici.tv and a pop-up occasionally appears... but the recital seems to be accessible nonetheless if you shut the pop-up window.

I'm actually rather tempted to subscribe.

Also tempted not to watch the Lisecki recital in its entirely, as it includes the pieces he's doing at the Wigmore in September, and I'd rather come to that 'fresh')

Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

This is the problem of starting a concert career at such a young age - you only have so much material 'under your belt' and only so much time to acquire new pieces to the standard that your growing public expects. I recall that Solomon took a long break in his teenage years to concentrate on both his technique and on his concert repertoire.

Lisiecki has entered and won many competitions already and has been giving public concerts since he was aged nine, so perhaps my mentioning Solomon's example was too late. He does seem to be a level-headed, possibly slightly dreamy young man but since I have not a milligram of his talent (but I bet my roast potatoes and gravy are better than his ) I guess I'll just wish him all the very best as his career develops and shut up ;winkeye:

      did I miss this ?
I went up the mountain to record the cowbells

      (Mahler 3 on Monday .........)

Apparently the Gurgiev Wagner was good but I only heard the rehearsals through the floor while trying to make a recording

It is a bit of a bonkers festival
the Kissin gig I went to the first half of was also filmed if you like interesting facial expressions and surprise endings
and a rather boogie-woogie approach to syncopation

Setting out shortly for the above. A pleasant way to end a Sunday morning - I hope. Sure it will be.

It's a sell-out, who'd be in the Box Office dealing with returns this morning?

I hope that you enjoy it Caliban - full report please.

I have been mightily impressed by his disc of the Chopin Etudes up there with Pollini and Perahia in my opinion.

              Hiya barbirollians,

Without doubt the finest orchestral concert with a concerto I have ever attended was at Semperoper Dresden in 2015 and it was played by Jan Lisiecki with the Philadelphia Orchestra under Yannick Nézet-Séguin. Lisiecki breathed new life into the Grieg concerto that I had become rather jaded with after hearing so often in concert. Nearly everyone stood up at the end and cheered.

A similar experience for me - I posted this in July re CBSO/Mirga G-T:

"I particularly wanted to hear the 20yr old Canadian phenomenon, Jan Lisiecki. He gave a jaw-dropping performance of Chopin PC 1 (which I believe he recorded when 15), brisk, quite declamatory, no mannered rubato (but a little more reflection, contemplation, a la Pires would have suited me). Mirga and her orchestra were with him all the way."
