Sir Colin was himself not inclined to be pompous about subjects as varied as tippling, the HIP movement (at which he cast large stones whenever the opportunity provided) and even death, in fact quite the reverse, so I am disinclined to tug the forelock to your rather pious imprecation. It was a bit of wordplay and a flight of fancy.
