    Dresden Music Festival 2013

Last night at a packed Albertinum in Dresden the performers were the Dresden Festival Orchestra directed from the harpsicord/organ by Ivor Bolton with Giuliano Carmignola (baroque violin) and Bejun Mehta (countertenor).

    The programme was
Johann Friedrich Fasch: Overture-Suite in D-Major for 3 Trumpets, 2 Horns, 2 Oboes, 2 Flutes, Bassoon, Strings, Timpani and Basso continuo,
Johann Adolf Hasse: ‘Dei di Roma’ from ‘Il Trionfo di Clelia’,
Johann Christian Bach: Accompagnato and Aria ‘Nò, che non ha la sorte’/’Vo solcando un mar crudele’ from ‘Artaserse’,
Antonio Vivaldi: Concerto per la solennità di S. Lorenzo in D-Major for Violin, 2 Oboes, 2 Horns, Strings and Basso continuo RV562,
Johann David Heinichen: Concerto in F-Major for 2 Horns, Violas, 3 Oboes, 2 Flutes and Strings Seibel 234,
Georg Friedrich Händel:’»Non fu già men forte Alcide’ from ‘Orlando’,
Georg Friedrich Händel: Rezitativo, Accompagnato and Aria ‘Che più si tarda omai’/ ‘Inumano fratel’/‘Stille amare’ from ‘Tolomeo’,
Georg Friedrich Händel: ‘Vivi tiranno!’from ‘Rodelinda’,
Georg Friedrich Händel: Water Music HWV 348-350 (Selection),

An excellent concert on period instruments if you can stand them keep going out of tune sometimes in mid-movement. Carmignola was stunning in the Vivaldi. Countertenor Bejun Mehta got better as the concert went on and finshed splendidly.

It's Jonas Kaufmann singing Wagner tonight with the Staatskapelle Dresden under the baton of new chief conductor Christian Thielemann.

        Hiya Brassbandmaestro,

Carmignola's violin fitted with gut strings went out of tune and the horns sounded awful with the rest all ok. But that is period instrument for you.

Last night I was at the Semper Oper in Dresden for a State Opera production of Rossini La cenerentola. Quite enchanting it was too with some great visual and sound effects. In fact everything about the production was splendid.

                        Hello amateur51,

Yes, I can feel almost the vibes. In my view the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin is one of the most underrated orchestras on the world stage.

Tonight it's a Viktoria Mullova concert. I'm excited as it has always been an ambition of mine to hear her play.

Any idea whether any of these concerts have been recorded for Radio broadcast? I'm thinking of Through the Night here...
