And, as a result, neither do we!

It's been a long time since I actually listened to an entire Afternoon on 3; my listening these days is selective from the i-Player, choosing items from the (often excellent) performances - which, over the week, often turns out to be as near to the actual concert programme as conceived by the artists as is possible. Is this what I'm meant to do?

It's not just Ao3, either - for some years Hear and Now has broadcast two works from a concert, with the remaining pieces either not broadcast at all, or a couple of weeks later, or six months later! I can't see the advantage of this - only the crass stupidity!

...or punctuate the adverts with music

Sometimes it sounds and feels like the other way round.

I can't stand the way they constantly interrupt the trailers - some of which are jolly exciting - with musical items.

Frankly I don't care a rat's behind whether the concerts are live, recorded or dissected as long as the music is listenable. However the interruptions that are insufferable are those from Sean Rafferty and his embarrassing verbal diarrhoea and Katie Derham with her over fussy pronunciation of all things foreign.

I have never forgotten, when studying German years ago, being told by a native German that my accent was quite good but by trying too hard I was actually making it sound less authentic.

often wondered what British accent teachers of English choose as their model in other countries !!

some people like him despite this and his other ..er....idiosyncracies.

Don't necessarily have a problem with chopping concerts up, but it really should be the exception rather than the rule.
After all, many of the pieces played on TNN are concert excerpts, and these don't seem to attract too much criticism.

Then you really do want R3 to be another Classic FM. It is precisely as a broadcaster of Concerts - live or recorded as such - that makes the crucial distinction.
If "listenability" is the only measure, then any internet or commercial classical station or musical wallpaper will do... so why bother with R3 at all?

No of course I didn't mean that I wanted wall to wall easy listening 'classical' music. I said that I don't care if what I hear on R3 say in the afternoon is a taken from a number of pre-recorded concerts. Perhaps my choice of the word 'listenable' was ill chosen but I know what I meant.
I can't think of anything worse than having Rach 2, Tchaik 1, Bruch etc continually played on an endless tape although I like them all in moderation.
I think Classic Fm provides a useful service but insults its listeners at the same time by denying them a much wider selection of music from which to chose.
