There is perhaps room for a sparkling Job - let's hope this new one is the one.
I certainly enjoyed AD's Job. I was at the Prom performance of the Walton/VW concert. Certainly the jobn was quite enthralling, imo. I have other versions like the Boult as well. So I know this work very well. My favourite part is when the organ comes in! Goodness! sir Andrew brings that in very well.

I suspect that I have always been disinclined to like him after he stepped in when Mark Elder was scandalously removed in 1990 from conducting the last night for suggesting the standard programme might be inappropriate if we were at war .

I have a number of his recordings that bore me I give an honourable exception to the Delius concertos record and I have seen him conduct twice and both concerts were very forgettable .

Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, Sir Andrew Davis (conductor)

I know Job means a lot to you as well - me too.

Kind of hoping Job gets an airing tomorrow, tbh.... At 33'30 or so, the symphony might stretch the time slot, whereas they might find it preferable to choose some of the Job movement. Generous disc - 77'29" in all
              Thanks Cali.
The recording has been available in the Naxos library for a couple of days now.
The Chandos sound is fantastic and the performances very good, super solo violin too.
Is it me or does the saxophone in Job,at 2:56:35 on I player and later, sound a little bit feeble, maybe the positioning of the instrument,no such probs with the 3 in the 9th.
The Organ does slightly sound as if it was recorded separately, which it obviously was in Bergen Cathedral, despite Andrew McGregor saying it is well integrated

                I'll be buying this, nonetheless.

Funnily enough, I'm not a great V.W. fan but I do fancy this cd.

I haven't heard the broadcast yet; but yes, I noticed today that I can stream the whole thing in HQ from Qobuz, so that's what I'll do. I'll check out the sax, don't like the sound of feebleness in Job!

I thought the Job was unsubtle and not a patch on Boult or Handley but then again I was probably predisposed to think so !

Job would be a good candidate for one of our Summer BaLs, I think.

I saw Andrew Davis conduct Job and Walton's Belshazzar's Feast at The Proms. Can't remember if they were separate concerts. I think they were?

I didn't have a problem with it, I thought it was properly slinky slimy seductive!

Must be me then,I've played it over a few times and it just doesn't seem quite right, not sure why, still doesn't really spoil the performance though

Certainly not unsubtle to my ears but yes,not up to Boult LSO or Handley's standard
