Much tearing of hair and beating of chests at the sheer volume of Wagner at Proms 2013 can be heard on other threads. Some of course are delighted, and why not? But what if you're one of the nay-sayers and discontents?
Well, City of London 2013 may provide just the antidote. Using a range of venues the Festival offers a wide range of concerts running from 23 June to 26 July.
Here's the full programme
My eye was taken by recitals by Barry Douglas and Alina Ibragimova (she is accompanied by Steven Osborne in a programme including works by Prokofiev and Arvo Pärt (9 July, Goldsmiths' Hall), performances of Britten three Church Parables by Mahogany Opera and Aurora Orchestra 03-06 July at Southwark Cathedral, a world premiere by Brodsky Quartet, Edward Gardner/CBSO playing Britten War Requiem at St Paul's Cathedral, a Mark Anthony Turnage world premiere, and lots more (Vaughan Williams' The Song of the Tree of Life anyone?)
