Well, my faith in Sky Arts 2 has been somewhat restored- from the 4th May they are running a Wagner season which will include a broadcast of the Met's latest Ring Cycle. No further details as yet, but I'll keep you posted and maybe start a new thread when the schedule is released. And only 4 more days of Rieu to go....

I was in England earlier this week, just in time for the seasonally-challenged 'André Rieu: Home for Christmas' on Sky Arts 2.
I believe the term is "car crash TV" - it's ghastly but you just can't tear your gaze away from the ghastliness. The women in the orchestra have been dressed by a colour-blind Sindy doll fetishist. André Rieu stands before all, looking smugly serene, "feeling" every note in his face, and appears to be in training for the World Gurning Championships.
It's the kitschest, most saccharine-laden, sentimental tosh I've even since, and since no man is an island, here's a trailer so that you can suffer along with me:

It's brill...!
Loved "mullet-headed Dutch waltz-strangler"
and
"He tortures me with his ruthless desecrations of Mozart. I scream vile abuse at his unrelentingly smug face. Only one of us is making millions from the exchange."
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

When I saw the thread title I was hoping it was meant literally.
[Ed: I altered the original title when I merged two threads: Was, "Is this an April Fool?" - ff]

That ok with you MrGongGong?
