    Nicholas Angelich lunchtime recital

Catch this if you can, a wonderful recital of Ravel (Mirroirs excerpt and Valses Nobles) and Mussorgsky (Pictures at an Exhibition), by this very fine pianist and musician. I wish I'd been there to hear him in the flesh but the R3 piano sound was pretty good.

I attended this with a pianist friend who was visiting England for a few days. The previous day we had been to see Imogen Cooper at Wigmore Hall and the Angelich concert was a bit of an afterthought but a very serendipitous one. The colours he drew from his playing were even more pronounced live and he was certainly "in the zone" and not just going through the motions, being visibly drained at the end of the recital but appreciative of a very warm reception.

      To make it easier:

It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.
