    St Matthew Passion

A thoroughly enjoyable performance. Bach is the sort of composer who's music can take a wide variety of arrangements. This was very much like the OAE at The Southbank in 2010 (I think). Last year I heard a very lush often perfumed rendition by the RLPO. All of them quite superb in execution. You cannot do easter without St Matt!

    Quite so...

As mentioned elsewhere, I shall be at the following tomorrow from 6.30pm onwards...

King’s is a dynamic and diverse College in the heart of Cambridge. Founded in 1441 by King Henry VI and recognised for its iconic Chapel, King's has a proud history of independent thought and offers a friendly and forward-thinking community to applicants from all backgrounds.

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

      M. Le Noggin is a vulgar shade of vert with envy, Calibosh. Safe travels up north, sir. Look forward to you reporting back on this.

What a feast, Calibs! I didn't know about this. And Sophie Bevan, fresh from being a Vixen, as Soprano in the St Matthew Passion!

Must diary this for next year.

I could easily do two in two days, especially if one was live. But there is a 5 month old daughter bouncing around the house. I can always get the CDs out.

I thought it was gripping. Utterly NOT bel canto, but like a sustained drama - as of course it is - but urgent and clear. VG stuff.

By what stretch of the imagination is Cambridge "up north"?

The last time I looked at a map, it was north of London. I wasn't referring to the North of England.

Sometimes the pernicketiness on this board is beyond the pale.

Indeed. Anything north of Watford is "up North".
