    St David's Day

Wondering which Welsh composers worth hearing will get the airtime tomorrow...

Obviously - none! I haven't heard R3 today but I would have liked to have heard Guto Puw. I suppose Grace Williams or Alun Hoddinott would be safe choices, but how abut Henry Brinley Richards?
I do hope at least Joseph Parry got an airing?
Anyway, Happy St. David's Day to one and all.

      We only get this:

Live from St David's Hall, Cardiff

St David's Day Gala Concert: the BBC National Orchestra of Wales conducted by Owain Arwel Hughes in Verdi's Requiem
What's wrong with a celebratory concert? Are we going to celebrate St.Georges's day with Mozart's Requiem e.g.

Happy St. David's Day to you Anna and my Welsh friend Roland Rees, organist, composer, 92 and still conductiong church choirs etc. An example to everyone and hope someone on the boards knows of him.

(Though it's more idiomatic to write/say Dydd Gŵyl Dewi [San] hapus )

Well, North and South Walians do speak different languages! The good news is that today Richard Burton is to be inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
How lovely it would have been if R3 actually broadcast Under Milk Wood this evening, the new revised version they did (on R4?), from memory, around 2006? New cast but with Burton's voice superimposed? I thought it wonderful.
Saly, hope your Welsh friend Roland Rees is in good health and we must raise a glass or a bowl of cawl to him.
As to St. George's day - who marks that? Certainly not any English that I know.
Edit: This morning, early, so many people wearing their daffs, lovely it was to see, why do not the English wear the rose on 23rd April?

He got an airing in this household in the guise of ‘Aberystwyth’ (‘Jesu Lover of My Soul’/’Iesu cyfaill f'enaid i’), one of my favourite hymns, in an off-air recording of a broadcast from a Welsh chapel.

A Happy St. David's Day to you too!.

Mercia, I would say, stick with the 1954 recording, forget the 1963 recording and if you can, listen to the 2003 recording. And, did I mention, you really should listen to one recording of this in your lifetime! A fantastic Play for Voices. Before you do, bung on some Parry to get you in the mood!!

What's wrong with Owain's Dad's oratorio St David then, he's done it before for the BBC on March 1st!! There's even original Wesh words for it - look you.

Mae'n amlwg eich bod yn Cymro Roehre!!
