Well, I went to a similar concert at the Brighton Dome yesterday and Stephen Bell, guest conductor of the Brighton Phil, injected a darn sight more fun into the proceedings than FWM who looks distinctly up-tight (but that's perhaps the nature of the VPO beast?)

Well, I enjoyed that I cried all the way through the Radetzky March but for some unknown reason that's normal. Happy New Year everyone.

I have heard more thrilling concerts . Kleiber's records from 1989 and 1992 are wonderful .

FWM appeared to be channelling Andre Rieu judging by his hair !

pace a thread on the 'Breakfast' forum, I thought the 'Blue Danube', played, I assume, in its full form, was rather a fine piece of music, & the Verdian guessing game (the 'Melodien Quadrille') was rather fun.

I enjoyed Radetzky more than Danube for once this year.

Still not convinced that FWM is quite a top notcher and yet plenty to enjoy if you were minded to do so.

Even on BBCHD the sound seemed rather airless and without perspective which marred my pleasure somewhat.

A listen again on a HD radio stream beckons this evening.

I have tried and watched for a short while today,thought the conductor looked a bit wooden,needed Andre Rieu
