Is it just that my mozartophobia is worse than usual, or is there more Mozart than usual on at the moment? It seems as though virtually every time I turn on the radio, out comes Mozart.

Maybe following the recent (wonderful) "northern lights" and new music festivals, R3 has been hauled over the coals for not hitting its Mozart quotas, and is now having to catch up.

Bach, Mozart and Beethoven are probably the 'Top 3' but if you have a phobia for one or all of them they're probably played too often. I mean - Bach every morning!!!! What is it with Bach, then?

J S Bach is way out ahead so far this year, with Mozart in 2nd place & Beethoven 3rd. The most played pieces so far are Debussy Preludes.

Now listened to piano sonata in Eb K282 - this thread reminded me of the Klara Würtz set which I hadn't listened to for a while. Should last me for a while

Mozart is one of the greatest of all composers, and if that were true it would be splendid. I am not sure it is true though.

I gather his reputation for greatness rests on a smaller proportion of his works than could for example be said of Beethoven or Bach JS.

It surely doesn't matter whether he is indisputably, and by universal consent, 'one of the greatest of all composers'? Some people loathe his music, but can one say any more than that it's their misfortune that so many others think the total opposite and their preference is seen to prevail in the amount of airtime he gets?

Just for the record, I bought the Philips Mozart Edition on LP, and many years later the Complete Philips Mozart Edition on CD.

Mozart is good - just not unimaginative wall-to-wall Mozart like we had a few years ago.
