    Not MORE Mozart?

Having just come back to R3 after an enforced absence of 12 days (due to my Mozart allergy), I've just heard the announcement that today's lunchtime concert has been replaced by a repeat of one of the concerts from the Mozartathon. For heaven's sake! Can't they give him a rest for even a few days?

Oh well - back to R4 (at least Any Answers is fairly interesting today.)

I wonder just who it is in the BBC who thinks Mozart it the be-all and end-all of classical music.

I've avoided R3 during the Mozart binge as well.

They've played every single piece by Mozart, which means they should avoid all Mozart for the rest of January at least, if not for longer. How about 'No Mozart until the Proms start' ;)

I only listened to some of the morning and evening programming during the Fest so perhaps am not as Wolfied-out as others...

... but what are the only CDs I've put on since the Fest ended? Mozart! Piano concertos... Especially No 14 which I found I had in the Murray Perahia performance, having discovered its delights for the first time in the excellent Stephen Plaistow programme earlier this month.

I do not think I will ever tire of the Mozart Piano Concertos.
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
      Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

              Unfortunately not with Stephen Johnson.

And combined with the repeat of Wednesday's all-Mozart Choral Evensong, which immediately precedes it, that's a full two and a half hours of Mozart.

                This is just inept.

Just on the off-chance, did anybody here happen to record the Radio 3 Breakfast programme on Saturday 8th January. I seem to have forgotten to access it via either the radio transmission or the iPlayer, from which it has now been removed. If you did record it, a PM would be much appreciated.

Mind you, Discovering Music was good! Mozart 36. A proper in depth research into it, especially mvt 1. (not the minuet though. Why do they always miss this out!)

It was interesting learning about the construction of the exposition and the unusual choice of themes in the development i.e. the 2nd subject start, the link after the codetta followed by the very beginning of the introduction done as the development climax.

So well done for that show.
During this Mozart immersion (flooding, more like!) I have just been only listening to the programmes I want to hear , otherwise Radio 3 has been off.

I've just received a spam e-mail from Roger Wright thanking me for my e-mail in support of the Genius of Mozart. And the "overwhelming positive response". (Did they bother to read my e-mail?)

The piano concertos, 4/5 operas, half a dozen symphonies and a handful of other pieces - sublime! The rest - much of it wallpaper music of its time - I never want to hear again as long as I live. The 12 days of Mozart were 12 days without listening to R3.

So:- Although you didn't listen, you're apparently qualified to judge.

This seems a familiar refrain from those who whinge about the Mozart Fest- and indeed, about Radio3 in general.

I've heard enough Mozart in the past to know that I didn't want to listen to 12 days of it - one doesn't have to listen to every note a composer writes to know that one doesn't like his/her music.

I think Flosshilde that Mr Pee thinks he is the only person qualified to decide on who can and can't judge on R3 programmes.
