Yes, well, perhaps the other way round then, going downhill. I should add that I have run 4 marathons and countless half-marathons. I think I could still do the run (uphill).

None of which, of course, is off topic as it's just an excuse to regret that Richard won't have the opportunity to visit St George's Bristol (Stephen Hough on Saturday, Angela Hewitt on the 19th, Victoria Mullova on the 22nd - not to mention Harry Bicket, Carolyn Sampson in the Wigmore programme last night ...)It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Wigmore Hall tonight. First an excellent meal at their restaurant and then The English Concert led by Pickett with Carolyn Sampson.
The 2 Bach pieces were great, my only small quibble being that in the Concerto arrangement ( I think I know this piece in 4 different versions) the violin tends to be completely swamped by the oboe.
Carolyn Sampson is a wonderful singer and has real stage presence.
I loved the Hall.
