    BBC Piano Season

(not sure if this is the right place)

The presenters Nicky Campbell, Jane Garvey and Shaun Keaveny are among those to be coached to become concert musicians for a BBC celebration of the piano
    […]
Radio 3's contribution to Piano Season will see artists such as Lang Lang, the Labèque Sisters and Malcolm Martineau sharing their musical inspirations, as well as hearing from experts such as David Owen Norris and Peter Donohoe.

Nicky Campbell joins Lang Lang in celebration of instrument that coincides with Leeds International Piano Competition

Will Radio3 be leading this or being led (into what?)

David Owen Norris is offering an ‘inventive media masterclas’. Rather intriguingly, the minimum age for the event is 5.
Sorry about that. The page you requested has probably changed or moved to another address. Please visit our homepage and try finding what you want, or visit the other links on this page for more help.

It was 7yrs before Barenboim played the Appassionata in public (wearing short trousers). Bit slow really if the above will become concert pianists in 6wks...

          Absolutely shuddersome!

A BBC celebration of the piano!!! Yeah, right. Leeds Competition now underway - but that would probably be too much of a celebration.

It certainly sounds like a lurch down into populism compared with the Pianothon which they had for a couple (?) of years. But that excluded people who couldn't play the piano so was a bit unfair on them ...
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

The programmes will include increased coverage of the Leeds International Piano Competition with a series about the finalists on BBC4 and Radio 3's live broadcast of the final.http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2012...y-piano-season

…like the Young Musician of the Year ‘Show’….?

Would much rather have a BBC celebration of percussion, with NC used as the bass drum.

Today's press release has details of some rather more interesting programming than How To Be A Concert Pianist In Six Weeks ...

Or maybe it's an attempt to encourage people to learn the piano.

Maybe . I wonder if that's how they get so many people to learn in China ...

I was thinking more of adults rather than children. I don't play the piano, and have never bothered because I find it difficult to do different things with the left and right hand at the same time. A programme like this may encourage people like me to give it a go.

Let us know how you get on ...

I suppose I'm sceptical, personally, about the likelihood of it being of great practical value because when I wanted to learn (as an adult) I found a piano teacher who was willing to take on adult beginners. I don't think that watching Shaun Keaveny having a go would necessarily be what would prove a serious incentive.
