It certainly sounds like a lurch down into populism compared with the Pianothon which they had for a couple (?) of years. But that excluded people who couldn't play the piano so was a bit unfair on them ...

I was thinking more of adults rather than children. I don't play the piano, and have never bothered because I find it difficult to do different things with the left and right hand at the same time. A programme like this may encourage people like me to give it a go.

I suppose I'm sceptical, personally, about the likelihood of it being of great practical value because when I wanted to learn (as an adult) I found a piano teacher who was willing to take on adult beginners. I don't think that watching Shaun Keaveny having a go would necessarily be what would prove a serious incentive.
