I guess you have never organised something like this then ...............
Why do you have to mention Sky? It really seems to be a bit of an obsession with some of you lot.
Although-since you raised the subject- I have just been watching a marvellous recital of Russian songs by Anna Netrebko and Daniel Barenboim on Sky Arts 2.
Patriotism is supporting your country all the time, and your government when it deserves it.
However I was intensely irritated by the bellowing, hyperventilating, adjectival verbosity of CB-H who crashed in a nano-second after each soloist to tell us what a stupendous performance we had just heard. Thanks for letting us know CB-H but I think we can make up our minds. And the inane backstage interview immediately after each performance. I turned to Mrs B-o-D and said: "I know just what she is going to ask." And on cue she did:
"What a stunning performance! How do you feel?"
Agree completely. I thought that the backstage interviewer- (Who was she? Did she have any musical background at all?)- summed up the whole inane, gushing presentational style when she was asked who she thought should win and replied ""All of them." <D'Oh!>
It's all about political correctness, Mr Pee. "... Must involve the BBC Regions. Let's give this one to Wales" ... "Must remember that we are a mixed race society" ... "Some regular television viewers are not very knowledgable where classical music is concerned" ...."Hang on a minute! What about the North of England? Let's shift the final up to Tyneside. There's an orchestra up there, isn't there?"
"X factor?" let's call it the "Y factor" Why not treat these young artists with the respect and attention that they deserve - or drop the competition altogether?

HS
I think you conflate things somewhat
What IS the problem with the BBC having things in different parts of the UK ?
Hardly "political correctness" (which is a phrase usually used as a prelude to someone being gratuitously offensive ! in my experience ) or are you really suggesting that orchestral players from outside London aren't really "up to it" ? ooops I'm sure we both know a few of those who would disagree .....

I found it rather odd that BBC TV and Radio 3 in this time of cutbacks had different presenters and panellists and that the BBC TV was running about 30 seconds behind the performances on the Radio .
Radio 3 had Sara Mohr Pietsch and Nicholas Daniel - she is so much better when freed from Breakfast .
He just did, in the part of his post that you have chosen not to quote.
I looked at that
and can't see anything that one might understand as being "PC" ????
So am still puzzled
And what is wrong with something happening in different parts of the country ?
Sadly (for most of us) TV IS a variety/quiz "show" .......... (though so were some of the first recitals at the Wigmore hall so it's maybe in good company !)
not much point moaning about that really ......... (though someone who's name escapes me for the minute did tell me about an alternative to the BBC but i've forgotten that as well ............ must be the weather ?)
