    Never heard that story before...

    Talk about class

Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments

The Decca/Katchen box of the Brahms solo piano music has been part of my life for a long time, an absolute joy.

ditto ... such that I don't feel the need to invest in other versions.

If i could play the piano well, I would play a LOT of Brahms.

If I could speak German, his songs and choral music would surely mean even more.

Chamber music players are very fortunate to have his works to perform.

His music is a source of endless wonder and pleasure.
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

I would put Julius Katchen, Solomon, Claudio Arrau and Vladimir Ashkenazy in that order of preference where Brahms' piano writing is concerned.

Of other performances that I can recall, Hans Richter Hasser in the 2nd Piano Concerto made a great impression on me at the time.
