    Mahler kerstmatinees

Haitink fans might be pleased to know these performances are available on DVD:

Indeed, we have discussed them here but recently in the Haitink favourites thread. Why they only have a Dolby Digital sound track (no LPCM stereo) is a mystery to me. Well worth getting though, despite that.

My copies arrived a couple of days before Christmas from:

... which are, currently, a little cheaper and have the advantage of an English language option.

I have had this set (both CD and DVD) for nearly two years now and count them as the most satisfying Mahler performances of all and as regular boarders will know, do I have a few! Why these performances have never been available here is a mystery. I have a live Haitink Mahler 6 with the Concertgebouw (CD only) but am very keen to get his 1988 8th on DVD to make up a live Haitink cycle.

        Is it available anywhere?

The bits on the website linked to, until you get to sorting out the delivery address, at which point you just have to accept the Dutch order of street name before the house number.

aaah, thanks. I thought you meant there was English on the DVD!! A bit short sighted of Philips I think to issue the disks with Dutch language only considering there is an 88 minute documentary about Haitink included. Very interesting content nevertheless.
