I've just listened to Sibelius Night Ride on Youtube as I didn't remember it. There's a lovely performance there by Simon Rattle.

          Love it fhg

Segerstam conducted a free lunchtime concert at Royal Academy of Music once which included a rousing Finlandia and a premiere of one of his symphonies (op. 210+ by this time I think Even Ernie Wise might have been impressed ) which he conducted from the piano. The kids in the band clearly loved working with him & the concert was a great success

Sorry Saly, but I'm afraid I can't say the same about tonight's Sibelius - boring, boring.

Now the Rachmaninoff. Full of wrong notes and sickening mannerisms.

The soloist talked himself into trouble for me. As our American friends would say, "Big hat - no Cattle"

At least we have the "Pathetique" to look forward to.

Shame about the Rachmaninov..........the audience must of appreciated all the wrong notes as they applauded the 1st movement ....or was that they were glad it was nearly over?.

Tonight's Rach 2 - what can one say - except Anatole Fistoulari and Katchen or Ashkenazy come back, all is forgiven!
Matsuev - the Russian Lang Lang??

Yep - the audience loved it!

Have just looked at google images for Dennis Matsuev.......he has a striking similarity with David Hasselhoff ( of Night Right rider fame)...perhaps it was the "Hoff" who was playing the RachmaninOFF tonight ??

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                            Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."
