It's a BBC-cum-London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games joint event. Having taken it on, the BBC then wondered where they could hide it.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Probably in the drawer where they store the joints.

but he was billed as the great Welsh composer - did he have anything to say, judsging from his string quartet very little I suspect - apparently he holds some awrd for best muzak for use in lifts .

Are we going to have another 3 months of this nonsense linking some expensive sports day (do they have three legged races) with music and culture ?

I quite enjoyed the new Joubert cello concerto. The orchestra was announced on air as the 'National Chamber Orchestra', but in the Radio Times it's the 'Northern Chamber Orchestra', which I believe is correct. Perhaps DM was too distrracted by the vexed question of how to pronounce Shrewsbury.

I think I might have heard part of this. I expected to turn on for Choral Evensong during a car journey yesterday. Instead I heard a strange overblown concoction. I thought it might have been some film music - perhaps from one of the Planet of the Apes sequels (the music from the original film was much superior.) It turned out to be by Jenkins - doesn't he belong on Classic FM - with Einaudi?

I didn't think the gig I listened to was "dumbed down" at all

What got me about it was that, as I listened with growing horror then outright laughter, that the BBC were the commissioners of the piece. The BBC?? for THIS?. The sheer relentless reptitiveness, the terribly narrow harmonic stuff reminded me of those rock bands who allegedly get by on three chords. The music of one who maybe has no need to explore any more.

The ASMF concert of the two Brahms sextets on Saturday afternoon was very good, prefacing each work with readings from extracts of Brahms' letters to Clara Schumann.

I dipped in now and then on the car radio - seemed to me that it just proves that Roger has swallowed hook, line and sinker all the 2012 guff. I await with trepidation the Proms launch, which is just six weeks away now.

Yes. As you can see, I have already submitted my entry. Should have a pretty good chance.

I wonder how much say he had in the programme. One thinks in terms of the Queen's Jubilee concert: this is intended as the 'high-brow' end, I suppose , as far as the great wide world is concerned. It isn't a "Radio 3" programme: it's a programme on Radio 3.

BBCSO were on R1Xtra, btw. Which is a start (though probably a finish too).
