    I can't say I'm surprised at the line-up, but it's disappointing.

Mind you, given that the orchestra and choir for the 2002 gig were treated with contempt by the personnel on the day, I'm not sorry that I don't have to decide whether to bother this time. Getting involved in anything royal is usually far less fun than you'd think.

Be one concert to avoid! Perhaps a thread should be started up about what music should be there and or artists?

That’s exactly what I thought when I read the OP. I can’t imagine any other countries marking the similar occasion with a concert of ‘thoroughly well established’ pop singers and a bestselling classical performer who is not even their own. No traditional music, no new works composed for the occasion? I’d have thought this is one concert that could be organised without any concern for profit and could show off the country’s Culture and Art. Have they (whoever thought about it) no respect for the Queen? Or for the country for that matter?
Oh for goodness sake, lighten up everybody. I won't be bothered about this concert, so I'll not watch or listen to it, although I dare say it will be quite a spectacle, regardless of the music itself. It may not be your cup of tea, but you can guarantee millions will enjoy it. If you don't like it, go and do something else. Not everything has to appeal to the rarefied artistic tastes that you seem so intent on foisting onto the great unwashed . Let them have their plebeian pleasures whilst you stick on some Stockhausen.
Patriotism is supporting your country all the time, and your government when it deserves it.

Oooh I'd name-drop too, if that happened to me.

Evan Parker on the roof of Buckingham Palace would be a fine thing indeed !

                      Didn't Beecham do that?

I don't think she's forced to do anything she doesn't want to (well, except for meeting Margaret Thatcher & Tony Blair once a week for about thirteen years each ). I believe that at the last jubilee concert she popped out for a brief listen & then went back in to put her feet up in front of Coronation Street.

It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.
