    Met Tosca Sat 28th Jan

    Crikey!

    Just listening now.
Just how wide are you allowed a vibrato before it is described as Nth degree wobbly and / or out of tune?

I caught most of act 1 on the car radio on my way to Cambridge... It sounded a very generalised performance to me - phoned in, as it were. There was little life in it, and the conducting skated over most of what is of interest. Mush!

I was also in the car returning to London. I thought it was poor, save for the orchestra in so far as one could hear it. Dreadful tenor. I never cease to be amazed at what is foisted on Met audiences who appear to lap it up.

Sought refuge in CFM where in fact Howard Goodall was playing some reasonably interesting British music.
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
      Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

I thought this would have made an intriguing tweet.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Was a bit surprised when she told me she supplemented her income from singing with bungee jumping off historic monuments.

First time I met her, she had brown eyes, now they seem to have turned blue? Must be wearing coloured contact lenses! Can't imagine why...
