Did you listen to the concert, Panyan? if so, what did you think of it?

You don't often comment on Radio 3 in particular or music in general, preferring to make snide comments about other Board members & their comments

I listened to it and wasn't impressed with his Beethoven although I thought it got better with Les Adieux - in spite of the finale becoming unstuck at one point. This is a bit mean, but the best part of the broadcast by far for me was the performance of Janáček's 1st String Quartet by the Pavel Haas Quartet during the interval which I hadn't heard before. It's great to hear that the tradition of Czech String Quartets is alive and well!

Incidentally, are these R3 live performances completely live? If so, the interval last night at the QEH must have been well over half an hour!

I only heard the Janacek Sonata I.X.1905, Les Adieux and the encore. I found the Beethoven disappointing (rushed, and rather ragged in spots), but loved both the Janacek and the Schumann.

Just caught up with this on the i-Player and have to agree with DublinJimbo that this pianist's Beethoven was disappointingly
splashy and lacking in rhythmic articulation, esp. in comparison to excellent performances by Llyr Williams, Nicholas Angelich and Shai Wosner in Radio 3's pre-Christmas series from St Luke's. Good to hear Janacek played live, though.
