Digging out this old thread as listening - as I do about once a year to the marvellous Bean/Boult recording this afternoon I wondered what the BAL recommendation was . Amazingly, it does not seem to have been done at all recently as there is no recommendation on the Presto website .
I am utterly spoiled by the Bean ( with the exception of the Pougnet which is another Boult recording if I ever hear the Lark in another recording or performance it seems to either be over emoted or too cool

At the risk of coming over as a 'troll', I LOATH this work! I'm not exactly sure what my objection to it is except that, in my extremely humble opinion, it sounds so contrived and twee. I usually turn the radio off when I encounter it and have done my best to avoid live performances of it despite having played, and led, orchestras while collegues wax lyrical about it. I remember playing for a competition orchestra and having to play it three times in one evening!
The public absolutely adore it!
I know it's my loss, etc, etc but there you are.

The Lark Ascends with the Piano
Fiona Talkington presents the third of four concerts from LSO St Luke's in London celebrating Edward Elgar's beautiful and little-heard music for strings. Today's concert is given by rising stars violinist Jennifer Pike and pianist Peter Limonov.
Elgar: Violin Sonata
Vaughan Williams: The Lark Ascending (original version for violin and piano)
Elgar: Sospiri
Jennifer Pike (violin),
Peter Limonov (piano).
I stumble upon the programme and quite enjoyed the violin sonata too.
