Yes, merce, three of them. Eugene, the son of the Belgian conductor and violinist Eugène Goossens (fils, 1867-1958) and the grandson of the conductor Eugène Goossens (père; 1845-1906).

Apologies, Mercia, since I could have checked Wikipedia myself. Daniel won't make the cut, I'm afraid, since he wouldn't mean anything to our group members (sorry, Daniel).

Apart from the fact that he spent a fair portion of his life in my home city, and was friends with arguably my home city's most famous son. By pure coincidence, I had a listen to Jones' 6th Symphony earlier, which I rather enjoyed hearing.

Do things other than people count? If so what about December 6th 1912 at 3.30 PM, the day and time that Kingsway Hall was officially opened by the Lord Mayor of London.

Gunter Wand born Jan 7 1912
Kurt sanderling born Sept 19 1912
Sergiu Celibadache born June 28 1912

...and if you thought you could get away without a Mahler anniversary, think again! The first performance of Mahler 9 was on June 26 1912.

Your recording club or whatever it is might like to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Solti recording of Wagner's Siegfried, May 1962.

"Oh yes!" to Bruno and Kirsten. Henry I would think of as a bit of an unknown compared with his brother William, but our early-music admirers will be delighted to have another anniversary to celebrate.

Already got Sanderling and Celibidache, but thanks for Günter Wand (watched a wonderful performance by him of Bruckner's 5th recently, his stick technique very like the present-day Claudio Abbado).

Mahler anniversary duly noted, but we tend to mark only births and deaths (though on-the-ball Mahlerite members may well be aware of the significance of 26/06/2012).

We tend to concentrate on composers and performers and their anniversaries (this year, for instance, our sessions on 21st May and 22nd October were designated Mahler Day and Liszt Day — we meet on Saturdays, so we remembered Mahler as close as possible to his anniversary date). (Only the really BIG names get a day to themselves.)

Expanding things to include dates of composition and first performances could be a runner, though. Can you give me a link to the Wikipedia info? I tried different combinations of search terms, but all to no avail.

apologies, I think I may have slightly exaggerated what wikipedia could offer in this respect.
anyway, here is the page for 1912 in music which obviously includes popular music. it doesn't give specific dates as you can see.

                                Edith Vogel born 1912
                                Sandor Vegh born 1912
