Come on, he's done the Butterworth now and not a single snide comment yet. What's going on?
What, no negative comments re. Manze's conducting tonight yet?

Oh Dear God! I've just returned from the BBCSSO's concert in Glasgow that was broadcast live. Sibelius and Dvorak.
Let's gloss over the fact that the Sibelius, rather than sounding like clear, sparkling water sounded as if had had Ribena added to it. I have never heard a concerto (Dvorak 'cello) accompanied in such an amateur way. The wind and brass completly obscured the soloist on so many occasions and there was no poetry or subtle moments. The strings made a kind of general 'grey' sound. Just horrible.
Perhaps he should stick to playing Grade 7 violin pieces...

I thought the Dvorak was good! Very moving. And unusual for me to like these mainstream works!
Sibelious 4 - caught it from mvt 2. The finale in particular came out well. As Stephen Johnson once said- it's a symphony in A minor. so where's E minor then? Still sounding modern exactly 100 years on!

I thought this the case with the MacMillan St John Passion where the broadcast balance was much better than that which I heard in the hall.
