    The moment that set me off was our music teacher playing us a record of the slow movement of Beethoven's "Emperor" Concerto when I was 13; I was amazed to find the composer expressing my innermost feelings. As luck would have it, the same work was performed in Rochdale (Champness Hall) not long afterwards and my mother got tickets for us. She lost them but they let us in anyway. I think the soloist there was Malcolm Binns.
