Warm Greetings to all Forum Members.
I thought that some of you would wish to know of the plight of the Flautist, Carla Rees. She is a specialist in New Music performance and co-founder of the ensemble Rarescale. She devotes her energies to promoting the work of young and emerging composers, teaching younger players, and building up a repertoire for quarter-tone flutes. Throughout her career, she has shown exceptional generosity of spirit and many of the emerging generation of performers and composers will testify to her unflagging energy on their behalf.
During last month's riots in London, the building in which she lived was destroyed, along with 600 manuscripts and ten instruments (at least four of them hand made for her by the Dutch company, Kingma; these include three microtonal instruments ["standard", Alto and Bass] at least one of which was the only such example in the UK).
Should anyone wish to help this remarkable woman, there are a series of benefit concerts in London (one at 7.30 this Thursday night at St Marylebone Parish Church, with a programme of Music from Telemann to Knussen; tickets are £10). Anybody wishing to help but unable to attend can also contribute to the Collection Fund organized by "Just Flutes" (I don't know how to do these links, but I got to the site by googling "Carla Rees Collection Fund"; alternatively, there are further details from Tim Rutherford-Johnson's Blog "The Rambler", from whom I heard this distressing story).
My thanks for your attention, apologies if anyone else has already raised this issue, and very best wishes to you all.
