Anyone else as impressed as me by this young contralto in last night's evening concert with the BBC Phil. She's quite something with a huge vocal range - no low options taken when a real top note needed and a superb low register. I think the phrase nowadays is 'The Real Deal'.

JD got a very brief word of praise in the Minnesota Orchestra's Mahler 8 this past weekend, from Rob Hubbard in the Minneapolis Star-Tribune here:
"Contralto Jess Dandy also impressed."

The Minnesota Orchestra has made a concert video of Osmo Vanska's Mahler 8 (mentioned above) available for a spell, with Jess Dandy among the soloists:
Just found this (so haven't yet watched it), and I've no idea how much longer it will be available. So it's best to watch it ASAP while one can.

Phew! I ran out of 'disc' (SSD) space on the first attempt at saving with Audials One (2019). Having moved several GB off that C: drive, it recorded successfully on the second attempt. Turns out that the audio is at a bearable 133 ABR aac (i.e. a little better than Radio 3 DAB at 192 kbps mp2). Now to copy t a USB stick to play via a HiFi system.

Short and sweet, as the saying goes. Your side of the pond is well represented in this blowout event to close Osmo Vänskä's tenure in Minnesota, with Carolyn Sampson and Barry Banks also joining the proceedings.
