When people tell me that they do not like classical music, I suggest they listen to Mozart. Approached on any level, how can anyone be disappointed, one good tune follows another.

The only thing that could leave me bored by Mozart is if I had nothing else to listen to, and Mozart was the only show in town.

Has anyone found a contact address for the Mozartfest? They'll presumably fit it in somewhere, or else ... we shall denounce them!!! :cool2:
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Only heard the tailend of his comment but nearly burst a blood vessel. Utter piffle I thought. Hope it's on iPlayer. I agree with you, it's a triumphant concerto.

Was it Service who also came out with "darkly luminescent"?

The only way they want to hear from us is by text. However, I have contacted them, making my views crystal clear.

In answer to my own question, the Oboe Concerto in F K293 is being broadcast today at 1400.

I never thought I'd say it but I am sick to death of Mozart
It's even on TTN, which usually escapes the gimmicks

                    Tom Service on Mozart (R3 - 09 Jan 11)
His closing remarks: <<. . . No music composed before the finale of Brahms's Fourth Symphony has the same sense of inescapable tragedy of the net closing in as that piece, and that Finale in particular. Mozart piano concerto no. 24 in c Minor K491. Murray Perahia was the soloist, also directing the players of the English Chamber Orchestra. >>

Maybe I over-reacted and obviously he's entitled to his view. Maybe it's just me who finds dissonant tonal relationships in c minor less disturbing.

I disagree. I think the Mozart fest has been a superb way to start 2011. I've heard some wonderful performances, discovered new works, and listened to fascinating interviews with conductors, performers and musicologists.

This is the kind of thing that only Radio3 can do, and I for one am very grateful for it.

More than 24 hours after it should have appeared, and over 8 hours after I received an automated acknowledgement of my raising the matter via the iPlayer "Contact Us" system, yesterday's "Herr Mozart Presents ... " has still not presented itself on the iPlayer. Programmes from both before and after have turned up without problem. Perhaps if others also alert them to the omission the iPlayer team will take the necessary action to make it available.

But I expect Radio3 to be doing just that as their normal programmes without resorting to this extreme.

It is absolute nonsense - some of the presenting on this channel is going through the floor as well . The very start of the Fest began with a female presenter referring to a concert at King's place and failing to name either the piano or soprano soloists for the various pieces . Three operas in one day who the hell would want to listen to that ?

Why could it not have been spread over the whole month rather than jammed into 12 days ?

I'm very fond of duck, but I wouldn't want it for breakfast, dinner & tea every day for a week!
