    Yes...

And it reminds me of the way the Proms trails are designed to end with the coda of some work followed by rapturous applause and shouts.

It's certainly true of some presenters especially on Breakfast they speak continuously with no punctuation this means there are no breaks between sentences however every presenter has to breathe as a result there are moments when the presenter. Takes a huge breath mid-sentence Petroc Trelawny is a good example Tom Service is a different kettle of fish hetalkssofastthatindividualwordsaredifficulttoreco gnise.

Alistair Cooke was never afraid to take his time and give each word breathing space.

Which in turn makes me think of the cramming together of shouting sports reporters amid crowd hysteria at some goal or winning post cliff-hanger at the half hour on Radio 4.

To make a positive point, there have actually been a few televised Proms on BBC4 this week. Maybe we should be thankful for small mercies.

In the light of the very sparse attention/reaction to the marvellous, untelevised Prom 9 (Pergolesi/Stravinsky, q.v) perhaps some here could sometimes remember to...
"switch off your TV and go and do something less (irritating) instead..."

Like....listening to the radio.....preferably the sonically superior AAC web stream.... no, you won't escape those bravos live, but at least they won't be repeated, and so far, the presentation has been relatively calm and informative.......

Listening to the Pergolesi right now, well, it has literally just finished. Excellent performance and engineering, indeed. Very much looking forward to the Stravinsky.

Now the interval feature. I find it rather confusing that Brabbins appears not to know that much of the music Stravinsky modified in this work was not actually by Pergolesi.

I hardly ever hear the interval feature - three-cat-management, needing a drink or some fresh air etc....but whatever Brabbins said, his performance was wonderful....I suspect I'll look back on it as one of the Proms of the season...

Quite possibly a lot of us did listen to the concert - as did I - but didn't find anything to say about it!

Don't make me reach for the cognac again! Been trying to cut down, or at least replace with a champagne breakfast (especially after a concert like that one...just the perfect Prom, really...)...

I quite surprised myself by really, really enjoying The Golden Age of Broadway Prom on BBC2 last night.
After a slightly straight-laced opening (the 'overture' to South Pacific) the BBC Concert Orchestra really got into Hollywood mode and accompanied the singers idiomatically. The technical side (sound and image) was excellent.

Such a concert must involve an enormous amount of background work, amassing the scores for many short items. It's actually quite difficult sourcing extracts from 'the shows', and I guess some un-named and probably underpaid person spent weeks collating the numbers into orchestral parts that avoided much scrabbling of paper and page-turns. And probably negotiating with the PRS.

Careful - you might be accused of going off-topic, or introducing matter that is only tangentially relevant.
