    Christmas Around Europe

Somewhat different this year as might be expected, but still much 'live' ( recorded earlier) content. So far(at 8-30) the highlight for me has been 7pm Telemann from Cologne - glorious singing. Currently enjoying JSB Christmas Oratorio - singing along, although my very old score(two shillings Novello) is in English... The bells(carillon type) at the church weren't silenced so there were some unscored additions at the close of Day One.

I always love this day - especially, for some reason, the voices of the presenters from the different countries.

This event, and other EBU ones like it, remind me that we are part of Europe, and always will be.

Deep sigh. I am very surprised there has not arisen a popular organisation for committed Europeans to belong to. You know, badges, flags, car stickers, that sort of thing.

Just read 'Barnaby Rudge' for Dickens's take on the Gordon Riots.

Worth it - takes persistence but scarily vivid.

Just downloaded the free Kindle version (for after Tale of two cities, which I'm about half-way through).

It's that time again. I hadn't looked (or thought!) ahead so didn't realise until yesterday. Good timing for me though, as I had my booster yesterday (finally, whole other story) my arm is not much use currently and disrupted my sleep, and I'm feeling more than a little arthritic so a day indoors in the warm listening to the radio appeals. The details for 16-00 through to close of play are sketchy, I assume due to Covid caused uncertainty but I shall be interested to see if the Stuttgart slot really is "Scandinavian Christmas music". Perhaps as the previous hour is Bach from Berlin they didn't feel limited to German repertoire?

Looking forward to this . Shame it isn’t on a Saturday as it would take out a lot of afternoon Radio 3 fare that normally has me reaching for Qobuz. But this is usually excellent …the best antidote to a certain Carol competition imaginable.

Yes, listening to the Moscow Synodal Choir now - I just love the sound of a good Russian choir (especially when they hold on to a final chord for ever...).

Bizarrely, both of the next two programmes (Vox Clamantis from Tallinn and MDR Radio Chorus from Leipzig) feature Pärt's Seven Magnificat Antiphons.

Could be an interesting compare and contrast?

It would seem the concert we are getting isn't what was originally planned, hence the duplication.
