I’m anticipating closer communion with the music without the many distractions of an audience.

That’s been my experience in this season.

I've never found the audience much of a distraction aurally but I'm happy to miss the shots of celebs and grim-faced Japanese businessmen in the TV broadcast.

Looking forward to the concert as ever - and this time, as there's no party the night before, I might be feeling less 'fragile' than usual...

I'll happily manage without the many audience members with the light show from their mobile phones every time there is a camera shot from the rear of the hall.

You missed out the silk-tied , complacent, and overpaid Austrian bankers

True. I've got them on the list and they'd none of 'em be missed...

Willi B caught the essence of the Viennese music and also he was a superb violinist. (His Mozart is also top class!)

He was indeed. I saw him twice on his visits to the UK, in 1975 and 1978. Have you got the Decca Boskovsky box which includes all of his Strauss records, Mozart and chamber works with the Vienna Octet?

No but I have many of his recordings individual CDs and smaller boxed sets.

Always a tradition in the Kemp household to watch with coffee and Christmas cake! Curious how these small rituals add so much to the pleasure of life.

And even more so in uncertain times such as these. I always enjoy the concerts as a bit of feel good listening for simple enjoyment, usually watching on TV with a glass of something, and that will be even more welcome escapism this year.

Couldn't agree more - happily there are still some home made mince pies remaining here, so I'll be polishing those off during the concert.

More of a tradition here to watch with the sound turned down lowish and ask whether those final two or three glasses of Prosecco kindly offered by the neighbours at 02.00 in the morning was really such a good idea . This year sadly that’s not on offer ...

Very much a joyous occasion this year. Muti and the orchestra very much on the same wavelength.

Yes. And with half a dozen women in the strings and two in the woodwind (aside from the obligatory harpist), it's a new world in Vienna.

                              Still relentlessly white though.

The one merit of the cheesy tourist film is that it reveals the sensational quality of the VPO brass....
