I've just been sent some details of concerts which are going live around London. I'm assuming these are all OK Covid wise, and also that they will actually take place.

Not sure about the precise legislation passed last night, but prior to this last lockdown organisers who held an event which was not safe, or became Covid unsafe would be liable to a £10,000 fixed penalty. In my limited experience of attending an event in a church, there were well organised blocked off seats to set up the necessary distancing, and a squad of helpers to ensure it remained Covid safe throughout.

I wasn't suggesting that the organisers would do anything other than try to reduce the spread of the virus, and also to conform to the regulations in force, but the regulations and the particular situations do still seem quite fluid. The listings I put up go to the third week of December and it is still possible that things might change, though hopefully changes will be for the better. I do hope those events go ahead, but anyone wanting to go should check nearer the time.

Up here - well north of the border - there is still very little activity re live events. I think there are some cinemas open, but we haven't noticed anything we particularly want to go to. I'm not sure if there are any carol concerts or services planned, which would obviously have featured in previous years. There is also a low level of virus - though it's not zero even up here. Other things may not happen also - such as the Rotary Club's Christmas floats. I really don't know about that. Will there be Salvation Army bands playing outside? I don't know.

I have mentioned before that a very good friend of mine and presenter of Sound Out on Resonance FM died with Covid-19 on March 20th 2020, one of the early casualties of the pandemic. Next month, two concerts dedicated to her memory are to take place in Lambeth, London. On March 4th there will be a concert in Morley College's Emma Cons Hall:



Then, most relevant to this forum, on March 17th, is a concert at Iklectik to launch their Broadwood 200 grand piano,https://iklectikartlab.com/meet-miss-broadwood/



This will be a rare opportunity to hear John Tilbury play in London, these days. It will also include the premiere of a number of works, including Erika Fox's Lament 2020 for contrabass flute and piano (Carla Rees, contrabass flute).

I do hope as many here as possible with be able to attend at least the Iklectik concert on the 17th.

You will have noted that the organisers of the Emma Concs concert require that those attending take a lateral flow test beforehand. Iklectik has been running frequent gigs with Covid protection measures in place for a while, now. Whether face coverings will still be recommended by mid-March, I do not know. The three male performers for March 17th are all in their 70s or 80s and are well aware of the need for Covid protection measures to remain in place. In the brief intervals, one may relax in the delightful courtyard there.
