R3 Live In Concert : Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra / Behzod Abduraimov

Just to say that the Rach 2 from Behzod Abduraimov was so wonderfully played I had to stop what I was doing, turn the sound up and listen properly. So many wonderful touches in phrasing, agogics and so unflashy. His Campanella encore was absolutely staggering - one of the best live performances I have ever heard. And then he played a tricky Prokofiev encore after that - he must have fingers of steel...

Agreed, H! I heard him play the piece (same encore too) at the Proms a few years ago, and his playing reduced me to rubble. (The French cousin I went with still teases me for having tears flowing down my cheeks at the end).

He’s a marvellous musician (and pianist)!

    .

Erratum: having consulted the BBC site, I see that my ridiculed tears were prompted by Rach 3 in 2016... also an overwhelming performance. The Rach 2 was the following year.

Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Seems like someone I need to get acquainted with!

One way of doing so: the Rach 3 Prom mentioned above has, I see, been issued on DVD. Here’s a trailer with extracts:

No sign of me blubbing in the side stalls though...
