Previn top of the pile for me but I've been listening to the Haitink/Philharmonia today.
Definitely up there in the top 2.
Thanks from me too Caliban for the link to John Wilson/BBC Phil

LSO/Previn, yes. RPO/Previn, not so much.

The John Wilson concert is available until 10.00pm Thursday 23rd April.

Fabulous performance of the Walton symphony which so often brings disappointment of one sort or the other.

Took me back to the BBC Philharmonic glory days of Ted Downes and Yan Pascal Tortelier.

Wholly agreed (I remember the disappointment when Rattle’s recording came out, for instance - hoped it might be The One... )
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                  Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

I seem to like everything that a John Wilson does. He just seems to interpret each work he conducts in such a way, as to make it sound afresh. Which is all good.

Seconded. I'm a huge fan. He excels both in his 'popular' work (what an orchestra!) and mainstream repertoire.

He really studies the scores hard and es his research as well. His last CD for Chandos is another Korngold treat
