    Sunday 8 Dec - 9pm Radio 3 in Concert

Kate Mollenson and Tom Service host the 17th annual Ivors Composer Awards, recorded on Wednesday at the British Museum in London. The British music industry's showcase celebrates the creative talent of composers and sound artists to promote the art of composition in contemporary classical, jazz and sound art. The 12 awards include choral, orchestral, chamber, jazz and stage works, plus sound art and community or educational project [sic], with nominations put forward by fellow musicians.

Hmm - I shall probably decide whether to listen to this or watch Glenda Jackson's first appearance in a TV production for 25 years on BBC1, not being sure what I feel about competitions such as this, or the idea of "the British music industry". Who is it who nominates the works and/or composers, and by what criteria are they judged?

What do others think about this event?

    Awards?

Tick boxes, eat expensive dinners, slap backs.

    Repeat.

and wastes one of the few concert slots over the weekend tho the 'European' selection seems to have degenerated into a collection of small items and not the integral concert that could so easily have been presented (and improved by the absence of a generally annoying intrusive presenter).

There are far too many competitions, buy there's only one Glenda Jackson, so it'll be BBC1 for us!

I literally couldn't take my eyes off her - what a performance - especially as the truth started to emerge ....
