    Televised concert coming up

    Just a quick heads-up:

The BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra's 75th Anniversary Concert will be broadcast live on BBC2 Scotland tomorrow (Thursday) evening from 7pm.

If you live outside Scotland, BBC2 Scotland can be found on Sky channel 990. I don't know if Freeview viewers outside Scotland can receive the channel; maybe someone can inform us.

    PROGRAMME

Helen Grime - Everybody Sang world premiere
Beethoven - Violin Concerto in D major
Walton - Symphony No. 1 in B flat minor

    Nicola Benedetti violin
    BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra
    Martyn Brabbins conductor

Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Yes - the iplayer is for the whole of the UK (even Scotland). Moreover, there is an interesting documentary on the BBC Scottish SO also currently available.

I'm not sure, but I think you can get BBC Scotland on FreeSat.

Enjoyed the appropriate German/Austrian word order, Bbm ;) Also glad that the edit facilty isn't entirely ironing out the typos.. :D

The concert is currently flagged as 'available soon'. Click on BBC2, then on 'Full BBC2 England schedule', then on 'Scotland' in the drop-down menu that then appears.

How odd OFCACHAP, the very moment you were writing that, I was checking iPlayer.... and yes, I saw it was still described as "COMING SOON". Bit odd, as it was broadcast last night... Hope it will make it onto the player.

Anyone watch it 'live' last night?

Yes! We watched it live last night. A little bit of a curates egg of a concert for me. I thought Young Nicola played well although she did have a lapse of memory in the second movt. of the concerto but I was amazed that this was her first performance of the Beethoven. In all honesty, although we're big fans of hers, I felt she was only 95% on top of it. We were puzzled that the Beeb couldn't run to a bunch of flowers for her at the end! Surely with it being a big birthday etc...

Mr's PG and I occasionally watch 'Come dine with me' and we're always amazed when contestents admit that this is the first time they've attempted to prepare a dish that'll be marked out of 10 by other people wishing to share the prize. AND it's on TV. I think I would be inclined to stick to something I knew I could do well in a pressure situatuation.

As for the Walton, well, I thought it was a big hum-drum. Too safe for me. The first movt. never really caught fire and the second was very cumfy! 'With malice' seemed to have been replaced by 'slightly put out', IMHO.

The interval film was an edited version of a programme that was shown on Monday night. Again, signs of penny-pinching. There was also a toe curling 'interview' with young Nicola, Ms. Grime (whose composition had started the concert ) and James McMillan.

For me, a wee bit of a damp squib.

That's very disappointing. I was hoping to watch it
