    Edinburgh International Festival, 2019

having just heard a superb rendering of Op59 quartet, with Cuarteto Casals.

I had to congratulate R3 for having programmed this beautiful work.
This was followed by Jacquelin's tears played as an entirely appropriate interlude and another beautiful piece by Shostakovich....tomorrow morning MORE!

The best days of R3, they sneak up on you by suprise, what a gorgeous exposure to the CELLO in the last 2 days!
    N'est pas?

Well, the first four movements of them, anyway.

      Sheku and Isata Kanneh-Mason
      quite simply superb!

With such playing, the cello (and the superb accompanist) has bright days ahead of it...

      Especially after Sol Gabetta live.

The annual 3-week season of morning concerts from Edinburgh is always a veritable treasure chest of fine music-making.

And for me, what adds to the pleasure is (as I've said on another thread) the exemplary presentation IMV by Donald Macleod.

Are we to assume that this Is Beethoven, and one of the Razumovsky Quartets? I love the Cello lines in 59/1, but there are plenty of good moments in the other two as well...

Llŷr Williams live from the Queen's Hall, Edinburgh. R3 11 am today.

. . . plus some of Liszt's virtuosic arrangements of Wagner's greatest hits.

                    How can anyone resist?

Could easily have overlooked this, thanks, prak I look forward to catching up. He did an admirable job of accompanying for the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World this year. Clearly a very versatile performer.

I don’t know if it was the works or the performance, the concert felt slightly lukewarm. All the same it was a treat to hear these works performed live.

I'll leave this for comments specifically on this year's EIF broadcasts, dovers, (and concerts for those lucky enough to be able to attend) and meld it into the general EIF Thread once comments have stopped coming in after the Festival is over.
