Bach's Brandenburg 6-1: Radio 3 in Concert Friday 12 July

Florilegium performs Bach's Brandenburg Concertos at the University of York's Sir Jack Lyons Concert Hall as part of the York Early Music Festival.
    […]
Florilegium uniquely performs them in reverse of the numbered order, ending with the triumphant first concerto combining wind, strings and brass.

    Florilegium
    Ashley Solomon (director)
Recorded at Sir Jack Lyons Concert Hall, University of York and presented by Hannah French.

Did anyone listen to this and any thoughts about the reversed order?

Came in partway through No6 and listened up to the interval. Order not an issue for me since I don't listen to them 'in order' unless as a concert - at home it's selected ones or no particular order depending on what I feel like. As Ashley Solomon indicated order is more convention than what was originally intended.
Didn't carry on listening as to me it was one of those 'you had to be there/sounded much better in the hall' broadcasts, and I found my attention wandering. No reflection on or criticism of the performers, as I think it was the production that was at fault(balance mainly) just that what I was hearing didn't appeal.

        It didn't to me either.
Listened to 6, 5, 4, 3 (did JSB really expect it to be played that quickly?) then switched to Gardeners' World on TV.

I have only caught the start of number 6, so far. Found it a bit prosaic for my taste. Will try further, later.

That was where I ended up as well. I'm not a fan of Monty Don and had fully intended to listen to the concert rather than watch GW, but as it turned out I found it an interesting programme, and the pastoral idyll nature of the various parts made for a mood lifting 50 minutes.

Only if the performances played the notes (and Movements) in reverse order.

… as a tribute to Eric Morecambe?
I'm not sure I want to hear all 6 at one go, anyway, any more than I want to hear, say, Haydn's Opus 54 complete at one go..

                        Now there’s a thought - is HIPP being mis-sold?

All too often. especially by some who are wedded to new-fangled/mangled ways of playing the music it seeks to restore to its former glory.

Isn’t there a later work by Bach where one section is an inversion of what preceded it, and the scores are mirror images? The Art Of Fugue, perhaps?

Some of the recherche techniques of the canons of the Musical Offering I think...
