Julia Fischer - Beethoven VC 30.5.19

Catch it on iPlayer but Julia Fischer and the LSO/MTT has just finished a wonderful performance of this Concerto . Is she still a Decca artist ? If so I amazed they have not recorded her in it .

    Wonderful performance .

Thanks, Barbie. I'll make a point of listening this weekend.

I had just ordered my CSO tickets for the next year, and one of the concerts has JF playing the Beethoven, so nice to see the love here. As she is an accomplished Pianist as well, it would be nice to hear her encore with Op.111 Piano Sonata...

Something of a keeper, I think, though a sly edit to remove the cough, just before the first timpanum stroke might be in order. Good to hear the deserved approbation offered after the first movement. I am, though, a little surprised that nobody here has jumped in to condemn it yet.

It's very possible this is a warm up for a recording. Certainly hope so.

Christian Tetzlaff had a pretty amazing Beethoven VC with cadenze of his own which had to be heard to be believed - including an accompanied sequence with tymps! R3 Afternoon Concert today.

I have not yet listened, but are you sure the cadenza was not a transcription of Beethoven's own, for his piano version, Op 61a? That certainly has timps.

Yes, just listening, it's Beethoven's own cadenza which he wrote for the piano version, as adapted for violin, presumably by Tetzlaff on this occasion. I think Schneiderhan was the first to adopt it. Tetzlaff used it for his recording with Zinman and Pat Kop went a stage further and roped in the forst violin of the orchestra for her live performance, so that more of Beethoven's harmonic writing could be incorporated. For her studio recording she used multi-tracking of her own playing.

Two very fine, and very different, broadcasts of this work in less than 24 hours. Oh, and Kate Molleson spilt the beans regarding the cadenze played by Tetzlaff, in her presentation following the broadcast.

And she's regularly going OTT into ecstasies in telling us how she felt about the perfs - like for minutes.
Kate, sweetie, as if we are interested.
