    Gewandhaus, Afternoon on 3

Unless I mis-heard, they have just introduced this programme by erroneously suggesting that the shoe-box-shaped 2nd Gewandhaus designed by Martin Gropius was the one still in use. It was stated: "it sounds just brilliant" (present tense). An amazing feat since it was bombed to bits during the Second World War and eventually demolished. Before the East Germans erected the current Gewandhaus in the late 70s (not a shoe box), they used the Kongresshalle as a temporary concert venue.

And good preparation for the upcoming BaL (Mendelssohn Italian).

The new Gewandhaus also has good acoustics. They said we were listening to the older one.
