Change of presenter - Mon 15th April

It doesn't. My loathing for some female voices extends to other channels. Radio 2, for instance, where I can't stand Zoe Ball or Sarah Cox. Moving back to Radio 3, I find that the choice of 'guest presenters' for many of these programmes they are putting out...you know, the ones where the presenter is a musician in an orchestra. Yes, they are skilled musicians. Their knowledge of classical music far exceeds mine but their vocal delivery...so many have absolutely zero inflection in their voices...no modulation...just a monotonous drone.

I’m not troubled by Radio 2 very much these days as the music played is a constant supply of late 70s and newer pop - and I’ve not been keen on the presenters, other than Ken Bruce, since Johnnie Walker left the Drivetime show. At least on R3 in the afternoons as we are treated to full works the amount of talking is limited but when Penny is the presenter that is a very pleasant bonus!

One female performer who also makes an excellent presenter IMHO is Catherine Bott.

You mean our much-missed Forumista Bott? Though she hasn't posted, I think, since her departure to CFM.

I didn't know she'd been a Forumista.
I sometimes listen to her CFM show - she combines non-gushy enthusiasm with considerable knowledge of her subject and, unlike a number of other presenters, is fully aware of the benefits of the appropriate inflection, timing or emphasis.
Our regular Sunday afternoon game of Scrabble is often accompanied by Alexander Armstrong (also on CFM) who enthusiastically combines knowledge of musical matters with an actor's skills to produce an enjoyable listening experience.
(I don't think it's just a coincidence that some of the best hosts on HIGNFY are actors).

You've just reminded me that it's not just some female voices that have me running for the 'off button. Alexander Armstrong is top of that list for me. There's also a male presenter on Radio 3 who sounds just like AA and has exactly the same effect.

Good news for her and Classic FM: it was only supposed to last 3 years. She must be doing something right - sounds as if she had a second series.
