According to Wikipedia, she'll be 54 in May. Either way, it's too soon!
I think she deserves enormous credit for performing in many venues that possibly don't otherwise provide many opportunities to hear live classical music.
Probably best to go out whilst people still want you to play. I don’t know whether this is the case but I can imagine that with orchestral engagements if you are still getting offers but not from first rank orchestras that could put one off continuing . I don’t suggest that is the case here but I recall Ida H apparently complained in her sixties that although Haitink and Rattle still wanted her - lots of sexist orchestral managements wanted younger female soloists.
I can always imagine her standing in a queue with the other orchestra members, to get her coffee.
I can't imagine Ann-Sofie Mutter in the same situation.
In recent years I have been fortunate to have interviewed both Tasmin Little and Ann-Sofie Mutter prior to evening recitals. Tasmin who I met at Stoneyhurst College was a delight, a vibrant bundle of energy. For our meeting in Midland Hotel, Manchester, Anne-Sofie was most open, seemed very grounded and was very gracious.

My feeling exactly, yes, good to see you posting. I'm looking forward to those posts about what you are listening to, Stanfordian - and pointers to, for example, Beczala's vocal recordings.
Petroc announced this on the Breakfast programme, and my first thought was to hope that it wasn't a decision made because of health issues. I have only ever heard her playing courtesy of R3, but it has always been a pleasure; I imagine her remaining concerts will be well attended.
Best wishes to Tasmin Little. As a young professional she played for us in Derry's Guildhall. I had the pleasure of engaging her in conversation after her performance - a rare opportunity for personal encounters with the stars.
