Another example of "what you see is not what you hear" I think. It's not at all obvious from watching this concert how Thieleman gets results, but the same could be said of some other outstanding conductors. This is the first time I've actually seen him perform.

This Rosenkavalier suite playing is better than anything so far in the main concert . Is this the Concertmaster ?

Great playing but some pretty leaden conducting - rather flat champagne to my ears so far.

Alas, the credits rolled so quickly I didn't really see but I'm sure the name Honeck was there. Yes, I was incredibly impressed with the playing in that interval section. Unbelievable playing and musicianship on display!

I would imagine that Rolex is rather pleased with the free publicity the BBC is giving them this morning.

I want to see Thielemann conduct the Czardas! The trickiest piece in the programme, and we get more dancers! Arrggghhhhh....!

That was fantastically played. How do they coordinate the dancers mile away with the music in the hall...BTW????

That is a very interesting question. The dances are filmed in the autumn ( by the look of the leaves on the trees ) to a Pre recorded track and then either the conductor tries to stick to the same tempo by memory or has some sort of click track would be my guess . I did notice that in the Czardas the dancers ended before the music so it's probably the former . It is just possible that the interiors are live and the exterior dance Pre-recorded but that just throws up huge potential continuity problems ...

Yes. It reminds me of the pan European one size fits all carry on smiling at all times style of dancing one sees on cruise ships.
