    Josef Suk R.I.P

A great performer and a lovely man. A worthy descendant of the prolific Czech composer.

A great loss indeed, and not only a Suk-, but a Dvorak-descendant as well

This is very sad news and I am very glad that he has left so many wonderful examples of his magnificent art for us and future generations to enjoy.

If I had to choose one concerto CD it would be his Proms performances on BBC Legends of the Beethoven & Dvorak concertos

He also recorded Brahms' Piano trios with Janos Starker and Julius Katchen in wonderful performances.

Brahms: Complete Piano Trios. Decca: 4480922. Buy download online. Josef Suk (violin), János Starker (cello) & Julius Katchen (piano)

I've just enjoyed the first Mendelssohn Trio - surprisingly the only CD with Josef Suk in my collection.

I'm sure I had some of his Supraphon LPs years ago.

One of the greatest. I'll get out and play his wonderful Berg concerto recording In Memoriam. Maybe others later!

Suk's Brahms violin sonatas with Julius Katchen are worth the money too. R.I.P/

I often wondered whatever happened to his father, who could not (it seems) compete with his son, father and grandfather.

...Sad news indeed. I have long been a Suk fan-met him a few times & actually ment to Study with him in Prague, but this was
impractical in the end.I have just about every Recording he made & particularly value his Unaccompanied Bach,Beethoven & Berg Concertos...

Saints above what a stupendous performance - immensely romantic but by far the best I have ever heard . It makes you love rather than admire the piece.

The Mendelssohn and Bruch couplings are pretty special too.

It's only a few months since we were celebrating the new Supraphon release of the boxed set of his Beethoven Sonatas with Panenka. Such a great musician. I too will be spinning that Berg recording, still my favourite, Faust notwithstanding.
