    Quiet Groans the Don

From the BBC Radio 3 website:

"Back in London, Penny Gore continues the afternoon with a performance by the Ulster Orchestra of Strauss's tone poem telling the story of the dastardly Don Quixote. "

As the friend who pointed this out to me put it, "opposed, presumably, to the quixotic Don Juan."

Sigh... time those unpaid postgraduate interns were given a general education as well as a free sandwich.

It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Wot?! With the word "quiet" in the title??!!

It's all Strauss' fault - so many "Don"s in his title - Don Juan, Don hTwo, ...

... and, if there's no one with you, you'll be groan your own.

            But is it worth it?

Of course the marvellous Aulis Sallinen foresaw all these complications (and Auntie's confusion) by entitling his delightful Chamber Music III (for cello and strings) The Nocturnal Dances of Don Juan Quixote.

Somewhat related to the topic, http://www.for3.org/forums/showthrea...370#post710370 . There are 12 poems in the work broadcast during TtN, not 3 songs, as announced.

Oh, dear. I suppose we just have to groan and bear it.

At least that infamous Don Mr Trump won't have anything to say about it, quixotic or otherwise...

Don a kebab. Get yourself spit-roast. You can take it in turns.

When I saw this heading I thought it was a comment on the disquiet of Owls supporters!

I HAD hoped we'd groan out of this sort of humour.
