    Peter Hofmann

The death has been announced of the tenor Peter Hofmann: he was Karajan's Parsifal on DG. Nuff said.

Very sad. He had been ill for some time with Parkinson's Disease and succumbed to Pneumonia. As well as being one of the great Wagner tenors of the last 30 years he had success as a rock singer in Germany a style of singing which he sometimes returned to.

    RIP

Mr Cowan has just played an extract of Hofmann in Lohengrin on Breakfast. Lovely.

I saw him as Parsifal at Covent Garden - I'm sure that the programme notes said that he had been an athlete before taking up singing.

Very sad news and far too young, but now at peace from that dreadful illness. RIP

I saw him as Siegfried in San Francisco's 80's Ring. He was riviting to watch and listen to. A sad loss.

Agreed. Tenors who can sing the Wagner roles are rare enough; tenors who can act them too are something to be really cherished.
