It's not entirely "typical" Lachenmann, S_A - it seems to take the sort of things that a young child does on a piano, and expands them into a suite of pieces. I find the Suite itself rather tiresome to listen to all the way through, and I think it's a very sensible idea to select movements and disperse them around a larger recital like this.

It's not entirely "typical" Lachenmann, S_A - it seems to take the sort of things that a young child does on a piano, and expands them into a suite of pieces. I find the Suite itself rather tiresome to listen to all the way through, and I think it's a very sensible idea to select movements and disperse them around a larger recital like this.

Was one of them the f sharp to e flat pentatonic tone cluster aka elbow on the black keys beloved of kids every where ?

I just wanted to scream and rush out of the room when the final Lachenmann piece just wouldn't stop! Lachenmann apart, WHAT A FABULOUS RECITAL and what an amazing pianist, capable of the most tender and sensitive playing as well as the bash/crash of Schumann's Fantasie.

An unexpected bonus were the 4 Poulenc Penitential Motets in the interval, beautifully sung by The Netherlands Chamber Choir.

I just wanted to scream and rush out of the room when the final Lachenmann piece just wouldn't stop! Lachenmann apart, WHAT A FABULOUS RECITAL and what an amazing pianist, capable of the most tender and sensitive playing as well as the bash/crash of Schumann's Fantasie.
